King Kush Strain

Updated: Oct 25

Noticed how the kings of the ancient world seem to sit on their throne most of the time? In some ways, you might expect the same thing when you use this strain.

King Kush is an Indica-dominant cross between OG Kush and Grape Ape that was bred by Green House Seeds.

Info about King Kush:

Aptly named, this strain gives you a rush that feeds your brain with happy thoughts. But be mindful too, as smoking too much leaves you stoned. Medical cannabis users appreciate this strain as it helps one conquer stress and pains.

It is not easy tracing the history of cannabis strains. The little we know about King Kush is that the California-based Apothecary Genetics used a variety of OG Kush cuts to breed with Grape Ape. It appears that when they finally decided on the right flavor, they then partnered with Green House Seeds in its distribution.

Effects

As alluded to, this strain might as well be called the King of strains, not because it has the best flavor or aroma, but more of what it does to you.

There are two common reasons why people smoke marijuana. One is to get high, the other is because of medicinal purposes, which will be discussed in another section.

This Indica-dominant strain does not disappoint when it comes to cerebral high. Often, the head rush leaves one in a state of bliss. As its effects creep in, any stress and tensions you feel are lessened, which now uplifts your mood and bring you to a euphoric high.

For some people, you could just imagine how eating could be so much fun, as King Kush does induce good appetite.

But this is unlike other strains that leave you high. In fact, smoke a little more than what is normal for you, and you get trapped on your couch. Of course, with the head rush that you have, which some have described as psychedelic, you might as well feel like a king sitting on your throne.

This is a strain you would like to use in the evening, once you are done with the things you need to do.

Fragrance

How do we describe the aroma of King Kush? If you are familiar with how most marijuana strains smell, it is that plus the distinct fragrance of grape. Combine that with the barely distinguishable undertone of spice, what you have is one of the better smelling strains that you are going to find irresistible.

Flavors

Where the fragrance of grape may overshadow OG Kush, its taste is different. King Kush leaves an aftertaste that is dominated by the flavor of OG, a little spicy and sweet at the same time. Is it a pleasant flavor? You bet.

Adverse reactions

Nothing major here for King Kush in terms of possible adverse reactions to you. Like most other strains, King Kush may leave you dry mouth. Other than that, the only thing you might want to watch out for is dry eyes.

While smoking King Kush brings a sense of euphoria and feel-good cerebral high, it could also lead to dizziness. This is a pretty common occurrence for novice users and anyone else who might have thought they could smoke as much as they want. So, keep to within reasonable limits.

Medical

One of the things that make King Kush popular, besides its great flavor and aroma, is its medical uses. This is a great strain to use if you want to take care of the constant high level of stress that you have to deal with. It is this ability to reduce the stress and anxiety that makes this strain a good choice if you want to uplift your mood. People suffering from depression and PTSD may also benefit smoking this strain.

Aside from stress, another common use of King Kush is in helping you manage chronic pain, migraine, and headaches. Female smokers should feel alleviation in menstrual cramps.

Hopefully, you do have the discipline to watch your food intake. King Kush promotes a healthy and good appetite, which is counterproductive if you have a need to shed off a few pounds. But for those who are underweight or simply have a poor appetite, this strain is for you.

Because after the high that this strain brings, it has a sedative quality that lets your whole body relax. In fact, it might be a little too much, which would explain why you may feel like staying on the couch. Hence, this strain is recommended for those who suffer from insomnia.

Growing

King Kush can be grown indoor, outdoor and in greenhouses. One suggestion, if you are growing indoors and using a light source, is to have the light more evenly distributed as opposed to being on top.

The reason for that is so that when the branches reach up, an evenly distributed light makes them grow upward and outward. This is good for the plant to maintain its integrity and structure. In other words, it is able to balance itself well.

The even distribution also promotes a better growth and results in a higher yield.

Flowering Time

Indoors

The good news for King Kush growers is that you could grow this strain using Screen of Green (ScrOG) method, which results in a faster flowering time of around 63 days. You do have to spend a little more time than usual to grow this strain and use Low-Stress Training (LST) to improve its quality. A typical yield indoors, when grown the right way, gives you up to 28 ounces per square meter.

Outdoors

King Kush appears to grow better in cooler climates. If taken care of properly, you can expect a good harvest of up to 38 ounces per plant. Usually, it takes 9 to 10 weeks for this strain to grow and harvest can be done late September towards early October.
