If you enjoy getting it all in the morning and having two bowls for breakfast is your thing (one filled with cereal and the other with grade A chronic of course ) then the Gruntz strain is the perfect option for you. Especially if you don’t have any Morning Glory on hand, excuse the pun.
Gruntz weed strain is an indica dominant strain with surprisingly energizing, upbeat, and long-lasting effects. This strain is a wonderful day starter, especially if you’ve established what your preferred dosage may be, as well as a tasty strain for evening unwinding. It may be wise however to test your tolerance on your off-time since the Gruntz strain does have a 25% – 32% THC average and can evoke greater indicia-like effects depending on how much you ingest.
Is the Gruntz strain indica or sativa?
After a few tokes, it may be hard to decipher whether the Gruntz strain sativa or indica genes are dominant; however, after a couple more tokes, it becomes pretty clear that indica is running this show and merely just shares some of the limelight with sativa. With a 70% indica to 30% sativa, its tasty flavor becomes a risk factor that could lead to “one more puff” being the determiner between a constructive day or a day of Rick and Morty marathons.
There’s speculation about who the original breeder of the Gruntz strain may be, although various other breeders such as Fire Society and Nasha Genetics have happily stepped to the plate to bring the strain to the public. Their specific cross-breed of strains do differ though. Perhaps Gruntz was a fake strain generated through internet hype that breeders then capitalized on by creating. Either way, we’re grateful that it exists.

Gruntz strain genetics
As mentioned earlier, the original source of the Gruntz strain genetics is somewhat mysterious, and although this adds to its lore and legend, the popular consensus seems to be that Runtz x Gushers are the most likely parent strains. Runtz strain originated as a Zkittlez and Gelato cross, creating a strong, evenly-balanced hybrid with euphoric, joyful effects. You can find seeds from the Gruntz family tree over at our seed bank:
Gruntz Strain comes from a family populated with candy-inspired dessert strains known for their sweet flavors with Skittles and Gelato already being a testament to that. However, on the Gusher’s side of the family, there’s Triangle Kush that brings a refined taste with natural, earthy elements into the mix. These popular strains, each with their own distinct flavor and flair, hand their credibility as well as reputation down to the Gruntz strain, which seems to be living up to it quite well indeed.
How to grow Gruntz
Although it can be easy to grow and it thrives both indoors and out, seeds for the Gruntz strain can be tricky to find online. This could affect general availability and in turn have an impact on its price. For the growers that do get their hands on some seeds, you have some fun in the store. Gruntz growing habits are typical of an indica strain with short, dense bushes that could benefit greatly from the scrog growing method.

A great strain for relaxation
The Gruntz marijuana strain produces bright green, beautifully crafted nuggets that sparkle as light reflects off the trichomes that coat every curve and contour of these oversized flowers. Subtle tones of purple are scattered amongst the sea of vivid orange pistils, letting you know that you’re in for a lot of sticky scissors come harvest time.
Growing Gruntz outdoors
With its indica dominance that shines through in both effects and growing habits, the Gruntz strain prefers warm, humid climates with healthy ventilation and airflow, growing to a medium height of 60-80 inches indoors (outdoor growers can expect taller results). It is important to note though that overwatering could be detrimental to your plant. You can refer to our Grow Bible and learn how to bring the best out of your plants.

How long does Gruntz flower?
According to the Gruntz strain info, the average flowering time of this strain is much like its parent strain, offering up a 7-9 week (49-63 days) flowering time and a mid-October harvest for outdoor cultivators.
Whether or not there is an autoflowering version of this strain is up for debate, but considering there are autos for both the parent strains of Gruntz, it’s safe to assume that there’s one floating around out there. It may be tricky to find though.
How much does the Gruntz strain yield?
Despite having medium-height, stocky bushes, Gruntz produces a substantial amount of flowers making it a fair yielder. Outdoor yields can fetch around 14 – 18 Oz per plant while indoor growers average 1.3 – 1.48 oz per square foot. As always, results vary based on plant care, lighting, nutrients, and other factors.

Gruntz terpenes
For a strain that’s birthed from mostly dessert strains, Gruntz isn’t quite as sweet as one may expect. It has strong elements of sugary sweetness. However, that’s counterbalanced with powerful tropical flavors and notes of creamy earthiness. Its divine flavor lingers on the tongue just like its scent lingers on your fingers after crushing the nugs.
