Cap Junky Strain

Updated: Oct 17

It may sound like something you’d call a hat collector, but Cap Junky has nothing to do with headwear and everything to do with top-class cannabis. Named after its creator collaboration, this impressive hybrid merges the quality and skill of renowned breeders Capulator and Seed Junky Genetics.

Launched in 2021, Cap Junky was released with a limited number of clones available to the public, fueling demand. Since then, different versions have cropped up, like Miracle Mints (aka Cap Junky) from Smyth Cannabis Co. In 2023, Cap Junky earned the People’s Choice award at the Michigan High Times Cannabis Cup.

Although our ILGM research team does its best to keep all information current, some details may be unavailable. We’ll update the information as we uncover more. Until then, let’s unpack what we know.

Some sources name Alien Cookies as a Cap Junky parent, and this may be the case with some of the copycat cultivars. But our research suggests that Alien Cookies is actually a grandparent. That’s because, when creating the Cap Junky marijuana strain, the elusive grower known only as Capulator brought his legendary Miracle Alien Cookies (MAC) to the table. MAC combines Alien Cookies with Miracle 15 (a Starfighter and Colombian Gold cross). This evenly balanced hybrid carries a high THC level averaging 23%. While not the easiest plant to grow, MAC is certainly worth investing your time, knowledge, and effort into.

Seed Junky Genetics, known for beloved strains like Gelato, LA Kush Cake, and Wedding Cake, contributed their notorious Kush Mints. Crafted from a blend of Bubba Kush and Animal Mints, Kush Mints is a 50/50 hybrid with 22-24% THC. It has a full-bodied aroma that travels through earthy and woody fragrances to notes of rich coffee. But it’s ultimately the bold, minty flavor that stands out.

When two of the most acclaimed breeders combine their flagship strains, the results are bound to be spectacular. And Cap Junky clearly comes from a line of heavy-hitter names and celebrity-status cultivars. But does it tick all the boxes that make up a grade-A cannabis strain? Let’s dig a little deeper and find out.

Is Cap Junky strain indica or sativa?

With a genetic lineage derived from both indica and sativa heavy hybrids, the Cap Junky weed strain inherits the best of both worlds. Its evenly balanced ratio contributes to versatile, well-rounded effects suitable for various preferences and occasions.

Growing Cap Junky strain

You can grow from seeds or clones, available through Seed Junky/Capulator seed and clone drops. Growing Cap Junky will require care, attention to detail, and some cultivation knowledge. You can grow it outdoors, but it thrives in a controlled environment where temperature, humidity, and lighting can be regulated.

As a balanced hybrid, the Cap Junky cannabis strain can grow vigorously. The plants reach a medium height with dense foliage and sturdy branches, making them suitable for various cultivation techniques such as topping, pruning, and low-stress training (LST).

Cap Junky’s dense, tightly packed nuggets are coated in a thick, resinous layer of sticky trichome crystals, giving them an almost white appearance. These trichomes contain the plant’s cannabinoids and terpenes, contributing to Cap Junky’s potency and aroma. The vibrant green hues of the buds are accentuated by splashes of purple and adorned with fiery orange pistils. This striking contrast of colors adds to Cap Junky’s visual appeal, letting you know what you’re in for.

Cap Junky Flowering time and yield

Generally starting as short and stocky, the Cap Junky weed strain can exhibit substantial stretch once it enters the flowering phase. Sources say this phase can last up to 12 weeks. When properly cultivated, Cap Junky has the potential to produce large yields with massive resin production.

Disclaimer: The average yield of any cannabis plant depends on several factors, including the cultivator’s skill, growing conditions, strain genetics, and the plant’s size and health. It also differs between photoperiod and autoflower plants. However, you can use general estimates as a potential yield per plant guideline.

For photoperiod plants, this is 16-64 ounces (450-1814 grams) outdoors and 8-24 ounces (227-680 grams) indoors.

Cap Junky Autoflowering time and yield

Autoflowers don’t require a change in the light cycle, making them grow considerably faster. The first buds typically appear around four to six weeks and have a flowering time between four and ten weeks.

Like most autoflowers, the Cap Junky cannabis strain will be ready to harvest after ten to fourteen weeks with a potential yield per plant of 1.7-7 ounces (50-200 grams) outdoors and 1.7-4.2 ounces (50-120 grams) indoors.

How strong is Cap Junky strain?

Certainly not for the faint of heart, Cap Junky might as well come with a warning label. This soon-to-be legendary strain weighs in with some of the highest THC levels I’ve ever seen. Sources say it clocks in with an average of 30% and up, with some tests showing results as high as 41%.

Information from Smyth Cannabis Co. suggests their version tests with 39.08% THCA, 1.73% D9-THC, and 1.95% CBGA. These numbers are astronomical in the cannabis world. It’s enough to make even a veteran sweat, so take it easy out there and pace yourself. Newbies and those with a low THC tolerance may want to give this one a pass (minus the puff puff).

Cap Junky strain effects

Cap Junky is revered not only for its genetic craftsmanship but also for its hard-hitting and long-lasting effects.

Consumers describe the high as fast-acting with a heavy cerebral buzz followed by full-body tingles. Offering a balance between relaxing and energizing, Cap Junky can have you eager to socialize or content to get blissfully lost in contemplative thought.

In Cap Junky strain reviews, many consumers say its relaxing and mood-boosting qualities aid in dealing with persistent pain, muscle spasms, cramps, and stress. Experienced consumers describe feeling energized, happy, uplifted, talkative, and focused, praising Cap Junky for its absolute potency. They also send a word of caution that some may find these powerful effects intensely overwhelming. Potential side effects include hunger, thirst, dry eyes, paranoia, and dizziness.

Cap Junky strain terpenes

Cap Junky’s dominant terpenes include caryophyllene, limonene, pinene, myrcene, and linalool. Each brings a unique flare to the cultivar, helping to shape its effects, flavor, and aroma.

Aroma & Flavor

The Cap Junky marijuana strain is the embodiment of “dank.” With a gassy, pungent aroma marked by strong elements of pine, pepper, and bold citrus, many equate its scent to over-ripe fruit (in a good way).

Cap Junky’s flavor is less in-your-face, supplying sweet and fruity notes with a crisp slice of floral and menthol. Consumers also describe tasting pepper and pine. These elements culminate into a smooth, satisfying, menthol-fueled explosion that lingers long after the exhale.
